The Building Societies Commission, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by paragraph 20A(13) of Schedule 2 to the Building Societies Act 1986(1), hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Building Societies (Members' Requisitions) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st December 1999.

Amendment of Schedule 2 to the Building Societies Act 1986

2.  In paragraph 20A(2) of Schedule 2 to the Building Societies Act 1986 (special meeting on members' requisition) for “100” there is substituted “500”.

In witness whereof the common seal of the Building Societies Commission is hereunto affixed, and is authenticated by me, a person authorised under paragraph 14 of Schedule 1 to the Building Societies Act 1986, on 5th November 1999.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the definition of a members' requisition in paragraph 20A(2) of Schedule 2 to the Building Societies Act 1986 by increasing to 500 the minimum number of a building society’s members needed to requisition a special meeting of the society.
