The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Construction Contracts (Northern Ireland) Order 1997(1), paragraph 2(1) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Construction Contracts (1997 Order) (Commencement) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999.

Appointed day

2.  The day appointed for the coming into operation of the Construction Contracts (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 shall be 1st June 1999.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order brings the provisions of the Construction Contracts (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 into operation on 1st June 1999.
The Order specifies that construction contracts should contain certain provisions relating to adjudication and payment and that where they do not, parties may rely on fall-back provisions contained in regulations made by the Department (the Scheme for Construction Contracts in Northern Ireland Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999).
