The Department of Education, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 17A(1), (2) and (2A) and 134(1) of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986(1) and Article 31(2) and (3) of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, and after consulting as required by Article 31(4) of that Order, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Individual Pupils' Achievements) (Information) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999, and shall come into operation on 25th June 1999.

Amendment of the Education (Individual Pupils' Achievements) (Information) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998

2.  Regulation 8 of the Education (Individual Pupils' Achievements) (Information) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998(3) shall be amended as follows—

(a)in paragraph (1) for the words “paragraph (2)” there shall be substituted the words “paragraphs (2) and (3)”; and

(b)after paragraph (2) there shall be added the following paragraph—

“(3) Where the principal of a school—

(a)receives information relating to a pupil in the final year of the third key stage after 30th June in any school year; and

(b)that information is specified in paragraph 2(1)(a) of Schedule 1,

he shall send that information together with the information relating to the same pupil specified in paragraph 2(1)(b) and (c) of that Schedule to the parent of that pupil (whether by post or otherwise) not later than 30th September in the school year following the school year to which the information relates.”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)
These Regulations amend the Education (Individual Pupils' Achievements) (Information) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998.
They provide that where the principal of a school receives the results of a pupil’s statutory assessment at the end of the third key stage after 30th June, which is the date by which a school must report to parents on the progress of their children, he must send these to the parents of the pupil before 30th September of the following school year.
