The Department of Economic Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 45(8) of the Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Race Relations Code of Practice (Elimination of Discrimination in Employment) (Appointed Day) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999.

Code of Practice

2.  The Department of Economic Development hereby appoints 2nd August 1999 as the day on which there shall come into effect the Code of Practice for the Elimination of Discrimination and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity in Employment, issued by the Commission under Article 45(1) of the Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order appoints 2nd August 1999 as the date upon which the Code of Practice for the Elimination of Discrimination and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity in Employment, issued by the Commission for Racial Equality for Northern Ireland under Article 45(1) of the Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 shall come into effect.
Under Article 45(10) of that Order the Code can be admitted in evidence in any proceedings before an industrial tribunal and if any provision of it appears to the tribunal to be relevant to any question arising in the proceedings it shall be taken into account in determining the question.
