CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
The Criminal Justice (Children) (1998 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 1(2) of the Criminal Justice (Children) (Northern Ireland) Order 1998(1), I hereby make the following Order:

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice (Children) (1998 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998.

Appointed day

2.  The following provisions of the Criminal Justice (Children) (Northern Ireland) Order 1998 shall come into operation on 30th July 1998:

(a)Article 56,

(b)Article 57,

(c)In Schedule 6, the repeal of section 150 of the Children and Young Persons Act (Northern Ireland) 1968(2).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings into operation on 30th July 1998 Articles 56 and 57 of the Criminal Justice (Children) (Northern Ireland) Order 1998.
Article 56 makes provision for the renaming of the Rathgael and Whiteabbey Schools Management Board as the Juvenile Justice Board and also provides for the conferring of additional functions on that Board. Article 57 enables the Secretary of State to pay grants to the new Board.
