The Sports Grounds and Sporting Events (Designation) (Scotland) Amendment Order 1998

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 18 of the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Sports Grounds and Sporting Events (Designation) (Scotland) Amendment Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st August 1998.

2.  In this Order, “the 1985 Order” means the Sports Grounds and Sporting Events (Designation) (Scotland) Order 1985(2).

3.  Part I of Schedule 1 to the 1985 Order is amended by inserting at the appropriate place on the list of sports grounds specified there (which is in alphabetical order) the following name:–

Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie.

4.  Part I of Schedule 2 to the 1985 Order is amended by inserting after paragraph 1 the following new paragraph:–

“1A.  Association football matches in the Scottish Premier League.”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Sports Grounds and Sporting Events (Designation) (Scotland) Order 1985 which designates certain sports grounds and classes of sporting event for the purposes of Part II of the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995 (previously Part V of the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1980). As a result of the amendments Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie becomes a designated sports ground and association football matches in the Scottish Premier League become a designated class of sporting event.
