The Minister for the Civil Service, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) and (8)(a) of the Superannuation Act 1972(1) and now vested in him(2), hereby makes the following Order:–

1.  This Order may be cited as the Superannuation (Admission to Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972) (No. 2) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 21st August 1998, but shall have effect from 31st October 1996.

2. Employment by the Library and Information Commission is hereby added to the employments listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
Section 1 of the Superannuation Act 1972 (under which the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme, the Civil Service Additional Voluntary Contribution Scheme and the Civil Service Compensation Scheme have been made) applies to employments listed in Schedule 1 to that Act. This Order adds employment by the Library and Information Commission to those listed in that Schedule.
The Library and Information Commission is a company limited by guarantee, set up under the Companies Act 1985. Its power to appoint staff is contained in its Memorandum of Association.
Under the power conferred by section 1(8)(a) of the Superannuation Act 1972 the Order takes effect from 31st October 1996.
