The Chancellor of the Exchequer, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(1) and (2) of, and paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 3 to, the Public Expenditure and Receipts Act 1968(1) and now vested in him(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order—

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st April 1998.

(2) In this Order a reference to a numbered column is to the column in the Schedule to this Order bearing that number.

Fees payable

2.  In each enactment specified in column (2) in relation to which there is an entry in column (5), for the sum specified in column (5) there is substituted the sum specified in relation to it in column (4); and the fee payable in England and Wales under each of the enactments specified in column (2) in respect of a matter or case specified in column (3) is that specified in relation to that matter or case in column (4).

Revocation of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) Order 1996

3.  The Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) Order 1996(3) (under which the fees payable were as respectively set out in column (5) of the Schedule to this Order) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order specifies the fees payable under the Acts relating to the registration of births, deaths and marriages and associated matters, from 1 April 1998.
Where fees have increased, the fees payable both before and after that date are set out in the Schedule.

1968 c. 14; paragraph 1 of Schedule 3 was amended by section 116(1) of, and paragraph 21 of Schedule 9 to, the Friendly Societies Act 1974 (c. 46), and by section 4 of, and paragraph 5 of Schedule 2 to, the Social Security (Consequential Provisions) Act 1992 (c. 6). By virtue of section 2(2) of the Marriage Act 1983 (c. 32) the reference to the Marriage Act 1949 (c. 76) in the said Schedule 3 includes a reference to that Act as amended by the 1983 Act.
