The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(3) of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Regulation (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.

(2) In this Order “the Order” means the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

Appointed day

2.  The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Order specified in the Schedule shall be 1st October 1997.

Provision of the Order
Subject matter

Article 75(2) so far as it relates to—

(a)
paragraph 22 of Schedule 3 to the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(2); and

(b)
Article 61(1), (2) and (4) of the Order.

Repeals in relation to offence provisions.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order brings into operation on 1st October 1997 the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 which repeal certain provisions of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 and the said Order of 1997 as a consequence of the coming into operation of the provisions of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996.
