Order made by the Secretary of State and laid before Parliament under section 60(3) of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996, for approval by resolution of each House of Parliament within 40 days after the day on which the Order was made, subject to extension for periods of dissolution, prorogation or adjournment for more than four days.

Whereas under section 30(3) of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisons) Act 1996(1) the Secretary of State may by order add to Schedule 2 to that Act any organisation that appears to her to be concerned in terrorism or in promoting or encouraging it:
And whereas it appears to me that by reason of urgency it is necessary to make this Order without a draft thereof having been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 30(3) of the said Act of 1996, I hereby make the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996 (Amendment) Order 1997, and shall come into force on 4th June 1997.

2.  The following organisations, that is to say—

“The Loyalist Volunteer Force” and

“The Continuity Army Council”

are hereby added to Schedule 2 to the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1996 (which specifies organisations which are proscribed organisations for the purposes of that Act).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order adds The Loyalist Volunteer Force and The Continuity Army Council to the list of proscribed organisations contained in Schedule 2 to the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisons) Act 1996, with effect from 4th June 1997.
