The Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books for Merchant Ships and Fishing Vessels) (Amendment) Regulations 1997

The Secretary of State for Transport, after consulting with the organisations referred to in section 306(4) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1), in exercise of the powers conferred by section 77 of that Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books for Merchant Ships and Fishing Vessels) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 11th July 1997.

2.  In the Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) Regulations 1981(2), paragraphs 17, 19 and 33 shall be omitted.

3.  In the Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1981(3), paragraph 27 shall be omitted.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations further amend the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) Regulations 1981 and amend the Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1981.
Certain entries, relating to the discharge of seamen outside the UK, conveyance orders and reductions in the scales of provisions or water, are no longer required to be made in official log books.
