The Merchant Shipping (Compensation to Seamen—War Damage to Effects) (Revocation) Scheme 1997

The Secretary of State for Transport, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6 and 7 of the Pensions (Navy, Army, Air Force and Mercantile Marine) Act 1939(1) and now vested in him(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Scheme:
1. This Scheme may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Compensation to Seamen—War Damage to Effects) (Revocation) Scheme 1997 and shall come into force on 1st August 1997.
2. The Merchant Shipping (Compensation to Seamen—War Damage to Effects) Scheme 1982(3) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Scheme)
This Scheme revokes the Merchant Shipping (Compensation to Seamen—War Damage to Effects) Scheme 1982 which provided for compensation for mariners on British registered ships who sustained war damage to their effects in the Falklands conflict.
