The Secretary of State concerned with health in England, the Secretaries of State respectively concerned with health and with agriculture in Scotland and in Wales, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland and the Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 105(1)(a) and 129(4) of the Medicines Act 1968(1) and now vested in them(2) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consulting and taking into account the advice of the Veterinary Products Committee(3) in accordance with section 129(7) of that Act and after consulting such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected by the following Order in accordance with section 129(6) of that Act, hereby make the following Order:—

Title and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Medicines (Control of Substances for Manufacture) (Revocation) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 11th August 1997.

Revocation of the Medicines (Control of Substances for Manufacture) Order 1982

2.  The Medicines (Control of Substances for Manufacture) Order 1982(4) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order revokes the Medicines (Control of Substances for Manufacture) Order 1982 as part of the implementation by the Animals and Animal Products (Examination for Residues and Maximum Residue Limits) Regulations 1997 of Council Directive 96/22/EEC concerning the prohibition on the use in stockfarming of certain substances having a hormonal or thyrostatic action and of beta-agonists, and repealing Directives 81/602/EEC, 88/146/EEC and 88/299/EEC (OJ No. L 125, 23.5.96, p.3).
A Compliance Cost Assessment has been prepared and a copy has been placed in the library of each House of Parliament. Copies can be obtained from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, Woodham Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 3NB.
