The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the power conferred by section 20(4) of the Finance Act 1997(1), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Finance Act 1997 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1997.

2.  Section 20 of the Finance Act 1997 (removal and disposal of vehicles) shall come into force on 8th October 1997.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the order)
This Order brings into force the provisions of section 20 of the Finance Act 1997 on 8th October 1997. Section 20 amends paragraph 3 of Schedule 2A to the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 which relates to the power of the Secretary of State to make regulations prescribing the circumstances in which an unlicensed mechanically propelled vehicle which is stationary on a public road may be removed.
