In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 214(2)(c) and (3) of the Education Reform Act 1988(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:—

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education (Recognised Awards) (Richmond College) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 30th June 1996.

Designation of awards

2.  Any award granted or to be granted before 31st October 1996 by Richmond College, the American International University in London is hereby designated as a recognised award for the purposes of section 214 of the Education Reform Act 1988.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order designates all awards granted by, or to be granted by, Richmond College, the American International University in London before 31st October 1996 as recognised awards for the purposes of section 214 of the Education Reform Act 1988.
As recognised awards, awards granted by Richmond College are not awards of the kind referred to in section 214(1) of the 1988 Act, which makes it an offence to grant, offer to grant or issue any invitations relating to certain unrecognised degrees or awards.
