The Euro-Mediterranean Agreement Establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States and the Republic of Tunisia(2), signed at Brussels on 17th July 1995..
Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order declares the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement Establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States and the Republic of Tunisia, signed on 17 July 1995 by the Communities and the Member States, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement establishes an Association which has as one objective the provision of a framework for political dialogue between the Parties. Other objectives include establishing the conditions for the gradual liberalization of trade in goods, services and capital; promoting trade and the expansion of harmonious economic and social relations between the Parties; encouraging the integration of the Maghreb countries by promoting trade and co-operation between Tunisia and other countries of the region; and the promotion of economic, social, cultural and financial co-operation. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play in relation to it the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provides for the implementation of treaties so specified.
