ACT 1992

Act 14 of 1992

AN ACT TO AMEND THE ORDER IN PUBLIC PLACES ACT

I assent,
TAUFA'AHAU TUPOU IV,

18th January, 1993

[6th October, 1992]

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature
of the Kingdom as follows:

1 Short Title
(1) This Act may be cited as the Order in Public Places (Amendment)

Act 1992.

(2) The Order in Public Places Act (Cap. 37) is in this Act referred to as the
Principal Act.

2 Amendment of section 7
Section 7 of the Principal Act is amended —

(a) by numbering that provision as subsection (1);

(b) by inserting the following as subsections (2) and (3);

“(2) Any police officer and any person whom he lawfully calls to his
assistance may arrest without warrant any person whom he suspects
on reasonable grounds of having committed any of the offences
under subsection (1).

Provided that a parent or guardian of a person arrested under this
section shall be notified of such arrest by the police as soon as
possible.

(3) A person arrested under this section shall be released to a parent or
guardian”.

3 Amendment of section 8
Section 8 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting “$50” and by substituting
therefor “$100”.

4 Amendment of section 9
Section 9 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting “$20” and by substituting
therefor “$100”.
