TONGA DEFENCE SERVICES ACT 1992
IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 141 of the Tonga Defence
Services Act, His Majesty, makes the following Regulations —
1 Short Title
(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Tonga Defenc Services (Amendment)
Regulations 2010.
(2) The Tonga Defence Regulations 1994 are in these Regulations referred to as
the Principal Regulations.
2 Regulation 11 amended – Age for Compulsory Retire ment
Regulation 11(2) of the Principal Regulations is deleted and substituted with the
following:
“Notwithstanding sub-regulation (1), the Board may determine that it is
desirable in the interests of the Services that an officer of the Regular Force be
retained in the Services after the officer has reach d the age for compulsory
retirement, but such retention shall not allow an officer to be engaged beyond
60 years.
Provided, that where the officer to be retained is of the rank of colonel or
above, the compulsory age for retirement shall be the age to be determined by
Regulation 2 Tonga Defence Services (Amendment) Regulations 2010

His Majesty upon consultation with the Commander, but shall not be beyond
65 years of age.”
