(AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 2013
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(3) of the District and Town Officers
Act, the Electoral Commission makes the following regulations and as amended in the
Tongan version only by the Legislative Assembly on 21st July 2014 by virtue of
section 9 of the Government Act (Cap. 3):

1 Short title
(1) These Regulations may be cited as the District and Town Officers
(Election) (Amendment) Regulations 2013.
(2) These Regulations shall come into force on the date they are published in
the Gazette except for regulation 2(e) which shall come into force on the
same date that the District and Town Officers (Amendment) Act 2013
comes into force.
2 Regulations amended
The District and Town Officers (Election) Regulations are amended as follows –
(a) Replace “Prime Minister” with “Electoral Commission” wherever it
appears;
(b) In the proviso to regulation 2 insert “’Eua,” after “Ha’apai”;

(c) In regulation 3 delete the words “each District shall be the Electoral
District for the purposes of the Legislative Assembly Act and”; and insert
the words “the basis for” after “prima facie”;
(d) Regulation 4(1) is repealed and replaced with –
“Elections will be held at such times as shall be appointed in accordance
with the Act and notified by the Electoral Commission by Notice
published in the Gazette and by fonos through District and Town
Officers.”
(e) In the Schedule Note 1 –
change “30” to “20” and change “10” to “5”;
(f) In the Schedule Note 2 –
replace “Prime Minister’s Office” with “Supervisor of Elections”;
(g) In the Schedule Note 3 –
replace the table with –
