BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

PROCLAMATION NO. 1851

DECLARING AUGUST 5, 2009 AS A SPECIAL NON-WORKING HOLIDAY NATIONWIDE IN HONOR OF CORAZON C. AQUINO, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC.

WHEREAS, upon the demise of former President Corazon C. Aquino, Proclamation No. 1850 was issued, declaring a period of national mourning from August 1, 2009 to August 10, 2009;

WHEREAS, the former President will be laid to her final rest on August 5, 2009;

WHEREAS, it is but proper for a grieving people to be given the opportunity to honor and show their respect, appreciation and gratitude to the beloved former President in their own respective ways.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare August 5, 2009, Wednesday, to be a special non-working holiday nationwide in honor of the late former President Corazon C. Aquino.

This Proclamation shall take effect immediately.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

DONE in the City of New York, for Manila, this 1st day of August, 2009 in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Nine.
