PROCLAMATION NO. 1910

DECLARING THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 2 TO 8, 2009 AS “WEEK OF PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE”

WHEREAS, October 2, 2009 marks the beginning of the “World March for Peace and Non-Violence”, promoted by World Without Wars and Without Violence, an international organization active in the field of pacifism;

WHEREAS, the World March is a historical event which aims to build awareness for the need to end war and dismantlement of all nuclear weapons;

WHEREAS, the World March also aspires to awaken a consciousness of non-violence that rejects all forms of violence, including physical, economic, racial, psychological, religious and even sexual;

WHEREAS, the World March greatly aims to send a strong and unified message to all world leaders that people all over the world desire peace.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period of October 2 to 8, 2009 as “Week of Peace and Non-Violence”.

DONE in the City of Manila this 7th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Nine.
