PROCLAMATION NO. 2028

DECLARING THE MONTH OF MAY 2010 AS NATIONAL CENSUS MONTH

WHEREAS, Batas Pambansa Blg. 72 provides for the taking of an integrated census every 10 years beginning in 1980, in accordance with the plans prepared by the National Census and Statistics Office (NCSO), now National Statistics Office (NSO);

WHEREAS, the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) is designed to take an inventory of the total population and housing units in the country and collect information about their characteristics;

WHEREAS, the national government’s thrust to decentralize functions to the local government units (LGUs) requires an up-to-date and comprehensive data of the population at the local levels;

WHEREAS, pursuant to Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, the 2010 CPH will be conducted in May 2010, with May 1 as reference date.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of May 2010 as National Census Month.

All departments and other government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, as well as LGUs, are hereby enjoined to implement and execute the operational plans, directives, and orders of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), through the NSO, relative to this Proclamation.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
