MEMORANDUM FROM THE PRESIDENT

To: ALL EMPLOYEES IN THE EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT

Subject: Support for the Peace Process

Date: February 4, 2011

My fellow workers in government, for decades our country has been mired in violent encounters. These armed conflicts have already given rise to much sorrow, fear, division, and ill will toward our fellow Filipinos. We know that we cannot go on as one country until we achieve peace.

This month we have been given the opportunity to engage in peace talks between the government and the MILF and the CPP-NPA-NDF. Let us support the talks between the peace panels. Together, let us show the whole nation, and the whole world, this government’s pressing desire for peace.

On February 8, at 7 in the evening, candles will be lit in front of houses in support of the peace talks. Some of our countrymen will be lighting candles along the stretch of Katipunan Avenue and C-5 (Carlos P. Garcia Avenue). This will reach Quezon Memorial Circle, where we will sound the peace bell.

Next Monday, we will start the signature campaign for peace in localities, in branches of government, in schools, and in NGOs.

I invite you to actively participate in these gatherings and activities. Together, let us show the light that only peace can bring.

(Sgd.) BENIGNO S. AQUINO III
