His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III
President of the Philippines
To the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines
On the occasion of their Rural Banking Week
[Released on August 25, 2014]
My warmest greetings to the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines as you hold your Rural Banking Week.
Our journey of four years towards revitalization has enabled us to restore integrity and accountability in our institutions. Our first steps involved dismantling the culture of corruption that has plagued our system; now we are making giant leaps by empowering our citizenry through basic social services, rehabilitating our communities to respond to the demands of our modern milieu, and transforming our economy into an even more enlivened business environment for tourism, livelihood, employment, trade, and investments.
May the RBAP never cease to help accelerate our momentum towards a more equitable and progressive society; may the rural banking industry continue to expand as excellence and transparency remain the standards of our fiscal sector; and may this event be an opportunity to engage your members in the countryside in eradicating greed and self-interest in both the public and private banking spheres, so that the Filipino people may further benefit from our good governance initiatives.
I wish you a meaningful, productive Rural Banking Week.
