The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,
commemorating the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, remembered with deep grief the death of Boris Nemtsov, a person close to Lithuania, which shocked our entire country. Boris Nemtsov was one of the main people who still gave hope that Russia will take a democratic path some day. Boris Nemtsov was due to be one of the main speakers at the International Parliamentary Meeting State of Democracy around the Globe: Current Challenges and Future Prospects, organised by the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy. The death of Boris Nemtsov is a loss to the entire free world and its hopes to see positive changes in Russia;
having regard to the European Parliament Resolution of 12 March 2015 on the murder of the Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov and the state of democracy in Russia (P8_TA-PROV (2015) 0074),
extends its condolences to the relatives and comrades of Boris Nemtsov. The death of this prominent Russian politician will encourage the democrats all over the world to continue to support efforts of the representatives of Russian civil society in creating an open society;
calls on the international community to exert pressure on the Russian Federation for this crime to be immediately investigated and those responsible to be prosecuted.
