RESOLUTION REGARDING THE MARKING OF THE 75th ANNIVERSARY OF

THE STATEMENT BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE CONCERNING THE NON-RECOGNITION OF

THE OCCUPATION OF THE BALTIC STATES

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,

assessing the long-term historical bonds between the people of Lithuania and of the United States of America;

emphasising the unity of Lithuania and the United States of America in defending democratic values;

evaluating the significance of the 23 July 1940 Statement of the United States Department of State regarding the non-recognition of the occupation of the Baltic States;

recognising the important role of the United States of America and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in ensuring security and stability in Europe and throughout the world;

recalling the assurance expressed in the speech of the President of the United States, George W Bush, delivered during his visit to Vilnius on 22 November 2002 that anyone who would choose Lithuania as an enemy would also make an enemy of the USA;

welcoming the agreements between the Republic of Lithuania and the United States of America concerning the United States military presence in Lithuania;

stressing the importance of the visit to Lithuania of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, John Boehner, 27-29 June 2015,

 

 

 

expresses gratitude to the United States of America for its continued and determined policy of non-recognition of the occupation of the Baltic States;

undertakes to make every effort in strengthening the strategic cooperation with the United States of America;

undertakes to seek the earliest possible conclusion of a free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States of America;

calls on the United States Congress to continue taking a firm stance on Ukraine's territorial integrity and to contribute in a variety of ways to the provision of every substantial assistance to Ukraine;

commits itself to actively contribute to the implementation of  provisions of the Strategic Concept for the Defence and Security of the Members of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organisation;

recognizes importance of Lithuania's participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan and other international missions of the Alliance and commits itself to consistently increase funding for national defence to honour the commitments to the Alliance; and

believes that the United States Congress will actively support the development of a vision of a free, democratic and undivided Europe.
