The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,

taking into account the cordial and long-term historical ties between the Republic of Lithuania and the United States of America;

expressing gratitude to the United States of America for the continued and determined policy of non-recognition of the Baltic States’ occupation;

stressing that the United States of America is the most important partner and ally in ensuring security, stability and welfare of Lithuania and the other Baltic States, which was reaffirmed by the decisions adopted at Warsaw NATO Summit;

emphasizing the cornerstone support of the United States of America to the development of other states in the region, such as Ukraine and Georgia;

committing to make all the possible efforts to strengthen the strategic cooperation with the United States according to the Charter of Partnership between the Baltic States and the United States of America;

guaranteeing Lithuania’s commitment to actively contribute to the implementation of the provisions of the Strategic Concept for the Defence and Security of the Members of the North Atlantic Treaty;

realising that investments into security are investments into the freedom and welfare of the state, as well as its allies,

notes that Lithuania commits itself to being a responsible member of NATO by strengthening the country’s defence and increasing its funding, so that at least two percent of the GDP would be spent as early as 2018, and by modernising the armed forces and contributing to international allied operations;

draws attention to the fact that the leadership of the United States of America and involvement in Europe is the foundation  of security and prosperity on the continent, and therefore, Lithuania together with the United States of America is ready to continue strengthening the transatlantic ties, including promotion of the principles of freedom and democracy, strengthening of measures for NATO presence and military deterrence in Central and Eastern Europe, creation of a mutually beneficial free trade area, development of  strategic projects in the areas of economy, energy, security and others;

adds that it is ready to promote closer bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and the United States of America on the level of political parties as well as business, academic, and multidisciplinary expert levels;

stresses that Lithuania has always been and will remain a reliable partner of the United States of America in Europe and the Baltic Sea Region.
