Article 1. Provisional Appointment of the Members of the Delegation of the Observers of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Parliament as Members of the European Parliament

1. For the period running from 1 May 2004 until the beginning of the 2004–2009 term of the European Parliament the Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, who have been appointed as the members of the delegation of the observers of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Parliament in compliance with Resolution of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania No. IX-1517 of 17 April 2003 on the Delegation of the Observers of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Parliament, and who have fulfilled the and conditions provided for in this Law, shall be temporarily appoint as Members of the European Parliament to the seats allocated to the Republic of Lithuania.

2. A member of the delegation of the observers of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Parliament who under the Treaty between the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Hellenic Republic, the Kingdom of Spain, the French Republic, Ireland, the Italian Republic, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Austria, the Portuguese Republic, the Republic of Finland, the Kingdom of Sweden, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (Member States of the European Union) and the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovak Republic, concerning the accession of the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic to the European Union, signed in Athens on 16 April 2003 (hereinafter referred to as the Treaty of Accession to the European Union) has been temporarily appointed as a Member of the European Parliament, must, by 20 June 2004, notify in writing the Central Electoral Committee about his decision  to resign from the office of Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. The term of office of such Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall be deemed to be terminated from 20 June 2004. If a Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, temporarily appointed as a Member of the European Parliament, does not resign from the office of Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania by 20 June 2004, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall consider an issue concerning the appointment of a new Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania as a Member of the European Parliament.

 

Article 2. Application of the Law on the Status and Working Conditions of the Members of the European Parliament Elected in the Republic of Lithuania

Invoking paragraph 2 of Article 25 of the Treaty of Accession to the European Union, the provisions of the Law on the Status and Working Conditions of the Members of the European Parliament Elected in the Republic of Lithuania, except the provisions of Articles 5 and 10, shall apply to the Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania who have been temporarily appointed as Members of the European Parliament for the period running from 1 May 2004 until the beginning of the 2004–2009 term of the European Parliament.

 

I promulgate this Law passed by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
