RESOLUTION
 
ON INTENSIFIED POLITICAL REPRESSIONS IN BELARUS
 
27 April 2006 Vilnius
 
 
 
 
 
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,
 
taking into consideration that the Belarusian regime has arrested today (27 April 2006) opposition leader Alexandr Milinkevich, Belarusian People’s Front leader Vincuk Viachorka, Belarusian Communist Party leader Siarhei Kaliakin, and trade union leader Alexander Bukhvost, and also that United Civic Party leader Anatol Liabedzka was brutally beaten up by the militia,
 
expresses deep concern about the current situation in Belarus;
 
calls on the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to issue a stern note of protest and make every effort to have the said persons set free;
 
invites the Government of the Republic of Lithuania to bring these facts of political repression committed by the Belarusian authorities into the open and seek to have them evaluated in the European Union.
