ON RATIFICATION OF THE International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, 1996

Article 1. Ratification of the Convention
Invoking subparagraph 16 of Article 67 and subparagraph 6 of paragraph 1 of Article 138 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, and having regard to Decree No 577 of the President of the Republic of 14 April 2006, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall ratify, making the declaration, the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, done at London on 3 May 1996.
 
Article 2. Declaration of the Republic of Lithuania
Invoking Article 2 of the Council Decision 2002/971/EC of 18 November 2002, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall make the following declaration: “judgments on matters covered by the Convention shall, when given by the courts of all Member States of the European Union with the exception of Denmark, be recognised and enforced in the Republic of Lithuania according to the relevant internal Community rules on the subject”.
 
Article 3. Proposal to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania
The Government of the Republic of Lithuania shall, before 1 September 2007, lay down a procedure for implementing this Convention.
 
Article 4. Entry into Force of this Law
Articles 1 and 2 of this Law shall enter into force on 1 September 2007.
 
I promulgate this Law passed by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
