ON RATIFICATION OF THE International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001

Article 1. Ratification of the Convention

Invoking subparagraph 16 of Article 67 and subparagraph 6 of paragraph 1 of Article 138 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, and having regard to Decree No 724 of the President of the Republic of 24 August 2006, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall ratify, making the declaration, the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, done at London on 23 March 2001.

 

Article 2. Declaration of the Republic of Lithuania

Invoking Article 2 of the Council Decision 2002/762/EC of 19 September 2002 authorising the Member States, in the interest of the Community, to sign, ratify or accede to the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001 (the Bunkers Convention), the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania shall make the following declaration: “judgments on matters covered by the Convention shall, when given by the courts of all the Member States of the European Union which ratified this Convention, except Denmark, be recognised and enforced in the Republic of Lithuania according to the relevant internal Community rules on the subject”.

 

Article 3. Proposal to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania

The Government of the Republic of Lithuania shall, before 1 September 2007, lay down a procedure for implementing this Convention.

 

Article 4. Entry into Force of this Law

This Law, except Article 3, shall enter into force on 1 September 2007.

 

I promulgate this Law passed by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
