RESOLUTION
ON EXTENSION OF the NATO MEMBERSHIP ACTION PLAN
TO GEORGIA AND UKRAINE

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,
regarding NATO as still the most important factor of stability and security in the Euro Atlantic area;
invoking Article 10 of the North Atlantic Treaty according to which European democracies in a position to contribute to the strengthening of Euro Atlantic security and stability may become members of NATO;
welcoming the Declaration of the 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit, which underlines that Georgia and Ukraine will become members of NATO and that the next logical step for them on their way to membership is extension of the NATO Membership Action Plan;
pointing out determination of Georgia and Ukraine to join the Alliance, consistent nature of their political and economic reforms, and expressing solid support for them;
convinced that NATO enlargement and Euro Atlantic integration consolidate and strengthen security and stability in the whole of Europe,
emphasises that the Republic of Lithuania has consistently supported and continues to support Georgia’s and Ukraine’s speediest possible coming closer to the Alliance and that to this end all available opportunities and means of cooperation must be used effectively,
speaks for extension of the NATO Membership Action Plan to Georgia and Ukraine during the meeting of NATO foreign ministers on 2-3 December 2008 and invites the parliaments and governments of NATO member countries to express solidary support for  this position.
