RESOLUTION
on implementation of THE results of the ADVISORY referendum on the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the Republic of Lithuania

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania,
having regard to the negative vote cast by the nation in the advisory referendum of 14 October 2012 on the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the Republic of Lithuania;  
being aware of the particular importance of energy for the entire economy of Lithuania;
stressing the necessity of a timely adoption and implementation of the decisions aimed at ensuring the country’s energy security, competitiveness and sustainable development, reliable energy supply and competitive electricity prices for consumers;
having considered the situation and the aspiration of Lithuania and the region to join the energy network of the European Union (EU), the Baltic Energy Market Implementation Plan (BEMIP) being implemented, the energy-related EU and national legislation in force and other circumstances,
 
proposes that the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, having regard to the results of the advisory referendum and seeking to ensure the country’s energy security and reliability of electricity supply, to effectively meet energy demand in the future and to integrate the electricity systems of the Baltic States into the EU’s common electricity market being created, also having regard to the use of renewable energy sources, develops and submits to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania a cost-optimal and consumer-friendly strategy for provision of electricity;
calls on the Government of the Republic of Lithuania to draft relevant legislative acts or amendments thereto and submit them to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania by 15 May 2013;
invites state institutions, political parties and citizens to seek national consensus on ensuring of a rational, competitive, sustainable and viable electricity supply.
