Importation of Equine Animals (African Horse Sickness) (Prohibition) (Jersey) Order 1961
THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE, in pursuance of Articles 1, 3, 13 and 42 of the Diseases of Animals (Jersey) Law 1956,[1] orders as follows –

1 Interpretation
(1) In this Order –
“principal Order” means the Importation of Equine Animals (Jersey) Order 1958;[2]
“specified country” means Afghanistan, Cyprus, Gibraltar, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Republic, and any country in Africa;[3]
“specified disease” means African horse sickness (pestis equorum).
(2) This Order shall be construed as one with the principal Order.
2 Extension of definition of disease
For the purposes of this Order, and for the purposes of Articles 3 and 13 and Part 4 of the Diseases of Animals (Jersey) Law 1956,[4] in so far as they are applicable to the making, administration and enforcement of this Order, the definition of “disease” in Article 1 of that Law is further extended so as to include a reference to the specified disease.
3 Prohibition on importation of equine animals from specified countries[5]
(1) Notwithstanding anything in the principal Order, the landing or unloading in Jersey from any vessel or aircraft of any equine animal brought from a specified country is prohibited.[6]
(2) For the purposes of this Article an equine animal is brought from a specified country if –
(a) its journey to Jersey is started in a specified country; or
(b) any vessel or aircraft carrying the equine animal in the course of its journey to Jersey, called at, or landed in, a specified country. [7]
4 Citation
This Order may be cited as the Importation of Equine Animals (African Horse Sickness) (Prohibition) (Jersey) Order 1961.[8]
