1. This Act may be cited as the Kingdom of Tonga Act. ti*.

2. In this Act- Interprcta-
lion. “commencement of this Act” means 4th June, 1970;

3.- -( 1) On and after the commencement of this Act, all Optration
existing law, that is to say all law which, whether being a &-
rule of law or a provision of an Act of Parliament or of any
other enactment or instrument whatsoever, is in force on
the date of such commencement or has been passed or made
before that date and comes into force thereafter, shall, unless
and until provision to the contrary is made by Parliament
or some other authority having power in that behalf, and
subject to the following provisions of this section, have the
same operation in relation to the Kingdom of Tonga, and
persons and things belonging to or connected with the
Kingdom of Tonga, as it would have apart from this sub-
section if on that date there had been no change in its
status.

(2) The Minister may, by order, make such adapta-
tions in any enactment passed before or after the commence-
ment of this Act, or in any instrument having effect under
any such enactment, as appear to him necessary or expedient
in consequence of the change in the status of the Kingdom
of Tonga on that date; and any such order may, though

made after the commencement of this Act, be made so as to
have effect from the date of such commencement.

(3) Every order made under subsection (2) shall be
subject to negative resolution.
