AN ACT
to provide for the establishment of a Board of Consumer Affairs; for
the conferring of functions on that Board; for the abolition of the Consumer
Council; and for connected purposes.
1 Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading

(1) As from the commencement of this Act, there shall be established a
Statutory Board to be called the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading (in this
Act referred to as ‘the Board’).1

3 Constitution of the Board

(1) The Board shall consist of —
(a) a chairman and a vice-chairman, who shall be members of
Tynwald; and
(b) no more than 3 other persons, each capable of representing
consumers in relation fo the functions of the Board, who shall not
be members of Tynwald.
(2) The members of the Board shall be appointed by the Council of
Ministers, subject to the approval of Tynwald.4

5 Expenses

Any expenses incurred by the Board shall be defrayed out of money provided
by Tynwald.

6 Interpretation

In this Act —
“the Board
” has the meaning assigned to it by section 1(1);
“the Public Analyst for the Isle of Man
” [Repealed]6

7 Amendments

(1) The enactments mentioned in Schedule 2 shall be amended in accordance
with that Schedule.
(2) Where, by virtue of any amendment made by this Act, any function of
the Governor or of the Governor in Council is transferred to the Board,
any pronoun referring to the Governor or the Governor in Council shall
be modified accordingly.
8 Transitional and saving provisions

The transitional and saving provisions in Schedule 3 shall have effect.

10 Short title and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Board of Consumer Affairs Act 1981 and shall come
into operation on such day as the Governor in Council may by order appoint.8

(a) any public document in force immediately before the
commencement of this Act; or
(b) sections 15 and 16 of the Interpretation Act 1976.
