AN ACT
to substitute a new section for section eighteen of the Evidence Act,
1871.
GENERAL NOTE:
The maximum fines in this Act are as increased by the Evidence Act
1976 s 5, by the Fines Act 1986 and by the Criminal Justice (Penalties, Etc.) Act 1993 s 1.

2 Penalty for false statement that document printed by authority

(1) Any person who, without due authority, prints or causes to be printed,
on any document purporting to be a copy of any act of State of the
Government of this Island, or of any public document, or of any
proceedings of the Tynwald Court or of either branch thereof, a
statement that the same is printed by authority, shall be guilty of an
offence and be liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding
£5,000.
(2) In this section —
‘printed’ includes, in addition to the meaning assigned to it by section 2 of the
Interpretation Act 1970, published;
‘public document’ includes, in addition to the meaning assigned to it by the said
section 2, any provision of any Act of Parliament, or of any instrument of
a legislative character, which has been applied or extended (with or
without exceptions, adaptations or modifications) to the Island by or
under any Act or by or under any Act of Parliament.1

3 Short title, construction and citation

This Act may be cited as the Evidence Act, 1965 and shall be construed as one
with the Evidence Act, 1871 and the Evidence Act, 1939, and those Acts and this
Act may be together cited as the Evidence Acts, 1871 to 1965.

4 Commencement

This Act shall come into operation when the Royal Assent thereto has been by
the Governor announced to Tynwald and a certificate thereof has been signed
by the Governor and the Speaker of the House of Keys.
