AN ACT
for Facilitating the Administration of Justice in certain Courts.
GENERAL NOTES:
This whole Act was repealed by the High Court Act 1991 Sch 5,
except s 7 which is reproduced below.
[The maximum fine in this section is as increased by the Fines Act 1986 and by the
Criminal Justice (Penalties, Etc.) Act 1993 s 1.]
7 Court may fine witnesses for not appearing when summoned

Whenever a witness shall be summoned to any Court, and shall not appear in
answer to such summons, and no sufficient cause be shown for his non-
appearance, the Court is hereby authorized and empowered to impose a fine or
penalty not exceeding £5,000 upon such witness, to be enforced in the same
manner as fines for contempt for non-appearance are now enforced: Provided
always, that nothing herein contained shall affect the present mode of enforcing
the attendance of a witness by a writ of contempt.
