AN ACT
to consolidate, with amendments, the law relating to the jurisdiction
of Coroners and the payment of Coroners’ fees.
1 Precedence of Coroner of Glenfaba

The Coroner for the Sheading of Glenfaba shall continue to take precedence
over the other Coroners at Tynwald Hill and on such other special occasions
when questions of precedence may arise.
2 Jurisdiction of Coroners

Subject to rules made under section 4, the Coroners for the Sheadings of
Glenfaba, Michael, Ayre, Garff, Middle and Rushen shall continue to have
concurrent jurisdiction and such Coroners may exercise and execute all the
functions and obligations of a Coroner in such Sheadings.
3 Coroner for more than one Sheading

The same person may be appointed Coroner for more than one Sheading.
4 Rules

(1) The Deemsters may make rules relating to the exercise and execution of
the functions and obligations of the Coroners and, without prejudice to
the generality of the foregoing, such rules may extend, vary or restrict
the jurisdiction of the Coroners, or any of them.
(2) Rules made under subsection (1) shall be laid before Tynwald.

5 Fees

(1) The Treasury may by order prescribe the fees to be charged by Coroners
in the exercise or execution of any function or obligation vested by any
enactment or otherwise.1

(2) An order made under subsection (1) shall not come into operation unless
it has been approved by Tynwald.

7 Short title and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Coroners Act 1983 and shall come into operation on
such day as the Governor in Council may by order appoint.3
