AMENDMENT ACT 1928

AN ACT
to amend the Industrial and Building Societies Act 1892.
1 Short title and construction

This Act may be cited as ‘The Industrial and Building Societies Amendment Act,
1928’, and the Industrial and Building Societies Act, 1892 (hereinafter referred to
as ‘the principal Act’), and this Act may be referred to as ‘The Industrial and
Building Societies Acts, 1892 and 1928’, and shall be construed as one.

3 Amendment of rules as to shares not to bind member without his

consent

Notwithstanding anything in section 17 of the principal Act, a member of a
society registered under that Act shall not, without his consent in writing
having been first obtained, be bound by any amendment of rules registered
after he became a member and after the passing of this Act, if and so far as such
amendment requires him to take or subscribe for more shares than the number
held by him at the date of registration of the amendment, or to pay upon the
shares so held any sum exceeding the amount unpaid upon them at that date, or
in any other way increases the liability of the member to contribute to the share
or loan capital of the society.
4 Commencement of Act

This Act shall come into operation when the Royal Assent thereto shall have
been by the Governor announced to Tynwald, and a certificate thereof shall
have been signed by the Governor and the Speaker of the House of Keys.
