The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 21 and 29 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996), hereby orders as follows:

Citation
1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (Sections 20 and 28) (Commencement) Order, 1997.

Commencement
2. sections 20 and 28 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 shall come into operation of the 21st day of April, 1997.
GIVEN under the Official Seal of the Minister for Social Welfare this 21st day of April, 1997.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Order provides that sections 20 and 28 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 will come into effect on the 21st day of April, 1997.
Section 20 and 28 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 provide that recipient of One Parent Family Payment, Widow's (Contributory) Pension or Widower's (Contributory) Pension will not be disadvantaged in terms of his or her social welfare entitlements as a result of his or her legal status being changed from married, separated or deserted to divorced.
