SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATED CONTRIBUTIONS AND INSURABILITY) (AMENDMENT) (DEFENCE FORCES) REGULATIONS, 1998.
The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 and 11 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993), hereby makes the following Regulations:
1 Citation and construction.
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) (Amendment) (Defence Forces) Regulations, 1998.
(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to 1997 shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to 1998.
2 Commencement.
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 6th day of April, 1998.
3 Non-commissioned army officers and enlisted personnel of Defence Forces.
3. The Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 are hereby amended by the substitution in article 87(2) (a) (i) for "£80" of "£100".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
These Regulations provide for an increase from£80 to£100 in the weekly earnings on which social insurance contributions are not payable by employees covered by Class H insurance i.e. NCOs and enlisted personnel of the Defence Forces. This new PRSI free allowance is effective from 6th of April 1998.
