Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in
“Iris Oifigiúil” of 14th January, 2011.
I, ÉAMON Ó CUÍV, Minister for Social Protection, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1(3) of the Social Welfare Act 2010 (No. 34 of 2010), hereby order as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act 2010 (Sections 7, 8, 9 and 10) (Commencement) Order 2010.
2. The 29th day of December 2010 is appointed as the day on which sections 8 and 10 of the Social Welfare Act 2010 come into operation.
3. The 30th day of December 2010 is appointed as the day on which section 7 of the Social Welfare Act 2010 comes into operation.
4. The 3rd day of January 2011 is appointed as the day on which section 9 of the Social Welfare Act 2010 comes into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).
This Order provides for the commencement of sections 7 to 10 of the Social Welfare Act 2010 .
Sections 7, 8 and 9 provide for the introduction of the reduced rates of Jobseeker’s Benefit, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Supplementary Welfare Allowance for claimants who refuse to participate in an appropriate training course or a programme under the National Employment Action Plan. Section 10 provides for the consequential repeal of sections 18 , 19 and 20 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2010 .
This Order provides that sections 8 and 10 of the Social Welfare Act 2010 come into operation on 29th December 2010, section 7 comes into operation on 30th December 2010 and section 9 comes into operation on 3 January 2011.
