GENEVA CONVENTIONS (SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS) ACT

4 of 1962 An Act to supplement the applied Act entitled the Geneva
Conventions Act, 1957, so as to enable full effect to be
given in relation to Guyana to certain International
Conventions done at Geneva on the twelfth day of
August, nineteen hundred and forty-nine.

Appeals by
protected
persons.
1. This Act may be cited as the Geneva Conventions
(Supplementary Provisions) Act.
2. In this Act the expressions “protected internee”,
“protected prisoner of war”, and “the protecting power”
have the meanings respectively assigned to them in section 7
of the applied Act entitled the Geneva Conventions Act,
1957.
3. Where a protected prisoner of war or a protected
internee has been convicted and sentenced to death or to
imprisonment for a term of two years or more, the time

conviction.
within which he must give notice of appeal shall
notwithstanding anything in any enactment relating to
such appeal be reckoned from the date on which he
receives a notice given—
(a) in the case of a protected prisoner of war, by
an officer of the Guyana Defence Force;
(b) in the case of a protected internee, by or on
behalf of the officer in charge of the prison
in which he is confined,
that the protecting power has been notified of his conviction
and sentence, or of the making of an order, as the case may
be.
4. In any case to which this Act applies a reference in
any law to any period relating to the revesting and restitution
of property on conviction shall be deemed a reference to the
period calculated in accordance with the last preceding
section.
