General Export Permit No. Ex. 14Short Title

1 This Permit may be cited as the Export of Specimens Permit.

General

2 Subject to section 3, any person may, under the authority of this General Export Permit, export from Canada to any state, any specimen listed in Appendix I, II or III of the Export Control List if a permit authorizing its exportation issued in accordance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora by

(a) a provincial or territorial government authority in respect of any specimen under the jurisdiction of that province or territory, or
(b) the Canadian Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment for any specimen falling under federal jurisdiction

is presented to the collector of customs at the Canadian port of entry.

3 An authority referred to in paragraph 2(a) or (b) shall not issue a permit in respect of a specimen included in Appendix I of the Export Control List unless an import permit granted by the state importing the specimen is presented to that authority.

4 Any scientist or scientific institution recognized by the Canadian Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment may, under the authority of this General Export Permit, export from Canada to any state, for the purpose of a non-commercial loan, donation or exchange between scientists or scientific institutions, herbarium specimens, other preserved, dried or embedded museum specimens, and live plant material, listed in Appendix I, II or III of the Export Control List provided a certificate of approval for its exportation issued by the Canadian Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment is presented to the collector of customs at the Canadian port of entry.

5 Any person may, under the authority of this General Export Permit, export from Canada to any state, any specimen listed in Appendix I, II or III of the Export Control List that forms part of a travelling zoo, circus, menagerie, plant exhibition or other travelling exhibition provided a permit approving its exportation is obtained from the Canadian Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment.

6 Where completion and validation of a customs entry form is required in respect of any specimens that are exported under the authority of this General Export Permit, that form shall be endorsed “Exported under the authority of General Export Permit No. Ex. 14” or “Exporté en vertu de la Licence générale d’exportation no Ex. 14”.
