AN ORDER TO CHANGE THE STATUS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF IQALUIT

WHEREAS, the Town of Iqaluit was incorporated as a municipality by virtue of the laws of the

Northwest Territories on October 1st, 1980;

AND WHEREAS, the Town of Iqaluit has come of age as the Capital of Nunavut;

NOW THEREFORE, by the power vested in me by the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, I, the

Minister of Community Government and Transportation, pursuant to section 5 of the Cities,

Towns and Villages Act, and every enabling power, hereby order and declare, that the Town of

Iqaluit henceforth have the status of a City;

AND FURTHER, I extend to the council and residents of the City of Iqaluit the warmest wishes

for continued success in all your future endeavors and present the well-wishes of the members of

the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut and each and every one of our residents in this vast new

Territory
