An Act to establish the correct spelling or versions of place names or enable them to be established.

1.       Short title

            This Act may be cited as the Spelling of Place Names Act.

2.       Correct spelling or version of names of certain places

            (1) The spelling or version given in the first column of the Schedule as the approved spelling or version of the name of any place, of the name of which place another spelling or version, or one of the other spellings or versions, is given in the second column, shall for legal purposes be taken to be the correct spelling or version.

            (2) The Minister may at any time add to or amend the Schedule by order published in the Gazette.

3.       Construction of reference in written laws to names of certain places

            Any reference in any written law, notice, deed of title, contract or other document to any place named in the Schedule shall be read and construed as if the spelling or version of the name of such place given in the Schedule as the approved spelling or version had been employed in such reference.
