An Act to provide for the sale without licence of goods at police canteens and to enable the establishment of additional canteens to be authorized.
[Date of Commencement: 30th December, 1970]
1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Police Canteens Act.
2. Interpretation
In this Act-
"authorized persons" means serving members of the Botswana Police Force, special constables appointed under the law relating to the Botswana Police Force, and officers of the Prisons Service.
3. Sale of goods without licence at police canteens
Notwithstanding anything in any other law, it shall be lawful for any person engaged in operating a canteen under the control of the Commissioner of Police which is named in the First Schedule, or any other canteen which may be established under the provisions of section 4, to sell without any licence at such canteen to authorized persons goods of any of the categories set forth in the Second Schedule.
4. Power to authorize establishment of police canteens
The President may, by statutory instrument, make an order to authorize the establishment under the control of the Commissioner of Police of canteens at any place within Botswana for the sale to authorized persons of goods of the categories set out in the Second Schedule.
