An Act to make certain provisions regarding elections to local councils.

1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Local Councils Elections Act.
2. Interpretation
In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires-
"District Council" means a council established under the provisions of the Local Government (District Councils) Act;
"local council election" means an election of members to a District Council, City or Town Council;
"Town Council" means a council established under the provisions of the Townships Act and includes a City Council.
3. Application of certain Parts of the Electoral Act
Parts IX and X of the
Electoral Act shall have effect in relation to local council elections as they have in relation to elections conducted under the provisions of that Act and for this purpose shall be construed with such modifications, adaptations, qualifications and exceptions as may be necessary to bring them into conformity with the circumstances of local council elections.
4. General elections to local councils to take place at same time as general elections to National Assembly
A general election of the elected members of every local council shall be held whenever Parliament is dissolved (otherwise than within six months of a previous dissolution) and the day fixed for the taking of any poll which may become necessary at any such election shall be the same day as that fixed under section 34 of the Electoral Act for the taking of any poll which may become necessary at the general election to the National Assembly.
