Commencement
WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Health Insurance Act 1970, the Health
Insurance (Standard Health Benefit) Regulations 1971, and the Health Insurance (Mutual
Re-Insurance Fund) (Prescribed Sum) Order 2014;
Be it enacted by The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and
consent of the Senate and the House of Assembly of Bermuda, and by the authority of the
same, as follows:
Citation
This Act may be cited as the Health Insurance Amendment Act 2016.
Amends section 1 of Health Insurance Act 1970
Section 1(1) of the Health Insurance Act 1970 is amended, in the definition of
“child”, by deleting “school-leaving age” and substituting “the age of 19 years”.

Amends section 2 of Health Insurance Act 1970
Section 2(1)(e) of the Health Insurance Act 1970 is amended by deleting “over
school-leaving age and under the age of twenty-one years” and substituting “who has
attained the age of 19 years but not yet attained the age of 22 years, and”.
Amends section 3A of Health Insurance Act 1970
Section 3A of the Health Insurance Act 1970 is amended—
in subsection (2A)—
in paragraph (c), by deleting “or”; and
in paragraph (d), by deleting the comma and substituting “; or”; and
by inserting after paragraph (d)—
the Consolidated Fund (in respect of the subsidy payments under
section 2),”; and
“(e)
by inserting after subsection (2C)—
Any amount paid to the Consolidated Fund under subsection (2A)(e) in
respect of subsidy payments for a financial year that is not required for such
payments shall, at the end of that financial year, be paid back to the Mutual Re-
Insurance Fund.”.
“(2D)
Amends Health Insurance (Standard Health Benefit) Regulations 1971
The Health Insurance (Standard Health Benefit) Regulations 1971 are amended—
in regulation 3—
by deleting the full stop at the end of paragraph (xxxviii) and
substituting a semi-colon; and
after paragraph (xxxviii), inserting—
extended period ambulatory cardiac rhythm monitoring device
provided by the Bermuda Hospitals Board;
expanded duplex ultrasound screening for peripheral artery
disease provided by the Bermuda Hospitals Board;
therapeutic plasma exchange for immune mediated diseases
provided by the Bermuda Hospitals Board;
high risk foot podiatry services where the facility, the services, and
the reimbursement rates have been approved by the Council.”.

deleting “$63.74” and substituting “$70.72”; and
deleting “$14.71” and substituting “$16.32”.
Amends Health Insurance (Mutual Re-Insurance Fund) (Prescribed Sum) Order 2014
Paragraph 2 of the Health Insurance (Mutual Re-Insurance Fund) (Prescribed Sum)
Order 2014 is amended—
in paragraph (a), by deleting “$18.40” and substituting “$25.00”;
in paragraph (c), by deleting “$1.00 per month; and”, and substituting
“$1.09 per month;”;
in paragraph (d), by deleting “$23.64 per month.” and substituting “$16.40
per month; and”;
by inserting after paragraph (d)—
to the Consolidated Fund, the sum of $7.53 per month (in respect
of the subsidy payments under section 2 of the Health Insurance
Act 1970).”.

Commencement
This Act shall come into operation on 1 April 2016.
